Turnitin is software that can be used by faculty members and some staff to check papers for material that is incorrectly cited. It is primarily used by the Thesis Processing Office on Initial Drafts and near-final drafts. It is also used by writing coaches at the Graduate Writing Center as a learning and teaching tool, when appropriate or requested. TII can be a valuable tool for helping students see what they have not cited, quoted, and paraphrased correctly, giving them the opportunity to learn and apply the rules; this often requires guidance from a writing coach or faculty member. In addition, some teaching and advising faculty use TII with submitted coursework. See the Turnitin Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) for more information, including how faculty can request an account.
